PMS Definition
Pre-Menstrual Syndrome or PMS is the name for the symptoms people can experience in the weeks before their period. PMS is something most period having people will experience.
Symptoms
There is a long list of symptoms when it comes to
pre-menstrual syndrome. Often broken down into two sections to include emotional signs and symptoms, and physical signs and symptoms.
Emotional and Behavioural Symptoms
Some emotional and behavioural issues that often go hand-in-hand with PMS are:
- Tension or anxiety
- Depressed mood
- Crying spells
- Mood swings and irritability or anger
- Appetite changes and food cravings
- Change in libido
Physical Symptoms
PMS isn't just about making you feel a certain way emotionally, it can manifest as physical symptoms too. Some of which are:
- Joint or muscle pain
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Abdominal bloating
- Breast tenderness
- Acne flare-ups
When to seek medical advice...
Whilst most will experience some symptoms of PMS, if the symptoms are so severe that they interfere with your everyday life you should see a doctor to further investigate the issue.
